On the flow of liquid crystals through 90° bends

چکیده

During the processing of nematic soft solids through process flow elements (pipe bends, elbows, etc.), constitutive behavior makes its presence felt via (with rheology driven effects increasing pressure drop) and final product microstructure. This paper explores microstructure configurations liquid crystals in a 90° pipe bends with different types wall anchoring. The governing equations Leslie–Ericksen theory are solved numerically newly developed OpenFOAM solver. We show that bend curvature deforms axis distribution; distortion can be either by elastic or hydrodynamic effects. interaction between field generates non-zero normal stresses (in radial, azimuthal, streamwise directions), which produce secondary increase losses. strength depends on type anchoring Ericksen number; homeotropic anchoring, decreasing number increases relative respect to mean velocity). Conversely, homogeneous (planar) reduces stresses, thus weakening strength. as fluid enters/leaves bend, there is perturbation transverse velocity caused stress gradients. magnitude material properties values at exit entrance. Finally, we spatial development downstream controlled both number.

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

the effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test

in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

Guiding Light Through Sharp Bends Using Two Dimensional Photonic Crystals

The current effort to make integrated optical chips requires guiding light around sharp corners with a radius of curvature on the order of a wavelength. Light propagates in conventional waveguides as a result of total internal reflection at the interface between the high-refractive index guiding layer and its low-index surroundings. However, bends in the conventional index-contrast waveguides a...

Laminar Flow Analysis in the Channel Bends

In this paper the laminar flow in the rectangular channel bends is simulated using numerical techniques. The turning angle of the channel bend and the area ratio of the channel cross-section are two important parameters to be examined. For flow simulation, the body fitted 3-D continuity and momentum equations are used and a body fitted general purpose code is developed. The existing results of ...
